Independence

Independence, according to Montessori, is the natural outcome of development. Montessori prepared environments, tailored to the planes of development, foster independence by supporting the holistic growth of the individual. Within these environments, children and adolescents learn to think, act, and make choices in the context of their community and the natural world. By nurturing autonomy, self-discipline, and practical life skills, Montessori environments instil confidence and a sense of responsibility, enabling individuals to become self-reliant, curious, and capable. This autonomy ultimately prepares them to contribute meaningfully as active members of a harmonious community and an interconnected and interdependent cosmos.
