Concentration

In Montessori pedagogy, "concentration" is viewed as a vital aspect of a child's development, essential for meaningful learning and personal growth. It refers to the ability to focus deeply and persistently on a chosen activity, allowing children to engage fully with their environment and materials. Maria Montessori emphasised that concentration is cultivated in a carefully prepared environment that respects the child’s natural tendencies and intrinsic motivations. When provided with hands-on, sensory-rich materials and the freedom to select their activities, children can enter a state of flow, fostering self-discipline and resilience. The role of the educator is to create a calm atmosphere and ensure uninterrupted time for deep engagement, enabling children to explore, understand, and connect concepts across various domains, thus laying the foundation for lifelong learning.
